Sausage and Apple Stuffing Casserole (Small Batch)
This small-batch sausage and apple stuffing casserole is the perfect side dish for a smaller Thanksgiving or holiday meal. It can be made ahead of time, making holiday cooking less stressful.
Ingredients
- 1/2 lb Bulk sausage, browned and crumbled
- 1 medium Apple, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup Celery, diced
- 1/4 cup Onion, diced
- 1/4 cup Dried cranberries
- 4 cups Stuffing cubes
- 1 cup Chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons Butter, melted
- 1/2 teaspoon Sage, dried
- 1/4 teaspoon Thyme, dried
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
Sautéing the Vegetables and Sausage
In a large skillet, brown the sausage over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles. Drain off any excess grease. Add the diced apple, celery, and onion to the skillet and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Combining the Ingredients
In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage and vegetables with the dried cranberries and stuffing cubes. Mix well.
Adding the Wet Ingredients and Seasonings
In a separate bowl, whisk together the chicken broth, melted butter, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Pour the liquid mixture over the stuffing mixture and toss gently until everything is evenly moistened.
Assembling the Casserole
Grease a small baking dish (about 8x8 inches). Pour the stuffing mixture into the prepared dish, spreading it evenly.
Make-Ahead Instructions
Cover the assembled casserole tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to 24 hours. If baking after refrigeration, let the casserole sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before baking.
Baking Instructions
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the casserole, covered with foil, for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the stuffing is heated through.

Let cool slightly before serving. Serve warm as a side dish.
