Lemon Infused Honey
Brighten up your breakfast with this zesty lemon-infused honey. The perfect complement to scones, muffins, or a simple bowl of fruit.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Honey
- 1 tablespoon Lemon zest
- 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
Combine Honey and Zest
In a small saucepan, combine the honey and lemon zest.
Warm Gently
Heat over very low heat for 5 minutes. Do not boil. This helps the lemon zest infuse into the honey.
Add Lemon Juice
Remove from heat and stir in lemon juice.
Let Steep
Allow the honey to steep for at least 30 minutes, or up to a few hours, to intensify the lemon flavor. The longer it steeps, the stronger the lemon infusion.
Strain (Optional)
If desired, strain the honey through a fine-mesh sieve to remove the lemon zest. This creates a smoother consistency, but the zest is perfectly edible.
Storage
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks.
Serving Suggestions
Drizzle over scones, muffins, pancakes, waffles, yogurt, or fruit. Use it to sweeten tea or lemonade for a refreshing twist. Add a touch to oatmeal for a bright start to the day.
FAQ
-
Can I use bottled lemon juice?
Freshly squeezed lemon juice is recommended for the best flavor, but bottled lemon juice can be used in a pinch. -
How can I make it spicier?
Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a sweet and spicy kick. -
Can I use a microwave to warm the honey?
It's best to use a stovetop over very low heat to prevent overheating the honey and potentially altering its flavor and nutritional properties. If microwaving, do it in very short intervals (5-10 seconds) and stir well in between.
