Prosciutto and Fig Balsamic Canapés
Elegant and flavorful canapés featuring sweet fig jam, salty prosciutto, creamy goat cheese, and a tangy balsamic glaze, perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
- 1 Baguette
- 1/2 cup Fig Jam
- 4 oz Prosciutto
- 4 oz Goat Cheese
- 4 Fresh Figs
- 2 tbsp Balsamic Glaze
- 1 tsp Fresh Thyme Leaves
Prepare the Baguette
Slice the baguette into 1/2-inch thick rounds. You should get around 12-15 slices from a standard baguette. Brush lightly with olive oil and toast the baguette slices in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 5 minutes, or until lightly golden. Alternatively, you can toast them in a toaster oven or under the broiler, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
Assemble the Canapés
Spread a thin layer of fig jam on each toasted baguette slice. Top with a small piece of prosciutto, about 1/4 to 1/2 slice per canapé. Crumble a small amount of goat cheese over the prosciutto.
Add Finishing Touches
If using fresh figs, slice them thinly and place a slice on top of each canapé. Drizzle each canapé with balsamic glaze. Garnish with fresh thyme leaves before serving.
Serving Suggestions
Arrange the canapés on a platter and serve immediately. These are best enjoyed fresh, but can be assembled up to an hour in advance and stored in the refrigerator. Bring to room temperature before serving. Pairs well with a crisp white wine or sparkling rosé.
FAQ
-
Can I use different types of cheese?
Yes, you can substitute goat cheese with brie, mascarpone, or even a sharp cheddar depending on your preference. -
Can I make these ahead of time?
You can prepare the toasted baguette slices and fig jam base ahead of time. Store separately and assemble just before serving to prevent the baguette from becoming soggy. -
What if I don't have balsamic glaze?
You can reduce balsamic vinegar in a saucepan over low heat until it thickens into a glaze. Alternatively, you can skip the glaze altogether; the canapés will still be delicious.
