Ingredients
  • 1 15 ounce can Chickpeas (canned, drained and rinsed)
  • 1/4 cup Tahini
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon Juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1 tablespoon Lime Juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 cloves Garlic
  • 1/2 - 1 (depending on spice preference) Jalapeño (seeded and roughly chopped)
  • 1/2 cup (packed) Fresh Cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin (ground)
  • to taste Salt
  • 2-4 tablespoons Water
  • : Olive oil, chopped cilantro, jalapeño slices Optional Garnish

Preparing the Ingredients

Drain and rinse the canned chickpeas thoroughly. Seed and roughly chop the jalapeño. Remove the stems from the cilantro and pack it loosely into a measuring cup. Make sure you have freshly squeezed lemon and lime juice on hand.

Blending the Hummus

In a food processor, combine the drained and rinsed chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, lime juice, garlic, jalapeño, cilantro, olive oil, cumin, and salt. Process until smooth. If the hummus is too thick, add water, one tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more jalapeño for extra heat or more cilantro for a fresher flavor.

Serving

Transfer the hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with chopped cilantro and jalapeño slices, if desired. Serve with tortilla chips, vegetables, pita bread, or as a spicy spread for wraps.
