Mini Mushroom and Gruyere Puff Pastry Tarts
These savory mini tarts feature a rich and earthy filling of sautéed mushrooms and nutty Gruyere cheese, encased in a flaky puff pastry shell. They are a perfect appetizer or snack for any occasion.
Ingredients
- 1 Puff pastry sheet
- 8 oz Cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 4 oz Gruyere cheese, shredded
- 1 Shallot, minced
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Fresh thyme leaves
- 2 tablespoons Butter
- 1 tablespoon Olive oil
- to taste Salt
- to taste Black pepper
- 1 Egg
Sauté the Mushrooms
In a large skillet, melt the butter with olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced shallot and garlic and sauté until softened, about 2-3 minutes. Add the sliced mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture and become tender, about 8-10 minutes. Stir in the fresh thyme leaves, salt, and pepper. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Prepare the Puff Pastry
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a mini muffin tin. Unfold the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface.
Cut and Fill the Tarts
Using a round cookie cutter or a knife, cut out circles from the puff pastry sheet. Gently press each circle into the mini muffin tin cups. Sprinkle a small amount of Gruyere cheese into each cup, then top with the mushroom mixture, and finish with another sprinkle of Gruyere cheese.
Bake the Tarts
Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush the edges of the puff pastry with the egg wash. This will help the pastry turn golden brown. Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Let the tarts cool slightly in the tin before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve warm.
