Tropical Mango Avocado Salad
A refreshing and vibrant salad featuring sweet mangoes, creamy avocados, and a zesty lime dressing. Perfect as a light lunch, side dish, or appetizer.
Ingredients
- 2 medium, diced Ripe Mangoes
- 2 medium, diced Ripe Avocados
- 1/4 cup, finely chopped Red Onion
- 1/4 cup, chopped Fresh Cilantro
- 3 tablespoons, freshly squeezed Lime Juice
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 teaspoon Honey
- 1/4 teaspoon Salt
- 1/8 teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1/2 small, seeded and minced Optional: Jalapeño
Prepare the Mango and Avocado
Carefully dice the mangoes and avocados into bite-sized pieces. It's important that the fruits are ripe but still firm enough to hold their shape. Place them in a large bowl.
Add Red Onion and Cilantro
Finely chop the red onion and cilantro. Add them to the bowl with the mangoes and avocados. The red onion provides a nice sharpness, while the cilantro adds a fresh, herbal note.
Make the Lime Dressing
In a small bowl, whisk together the lime juice, olive oil, honey, salt, and pepper. If you like a little heat, add the minced jalapeño at this stage.
Combine and Chill
Pour the lime dressing over the mango and avocado mixture. Gently toss everything together until well combined. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. This also helps the salad stay cool and refreshing.
Serve
Serve the salad chilled. It's delicious on its own, or as a topping for grilled fish, chicken, or tacos. You can also serve it with tortilla chips for dipping.
FAQ
-
Can I make this salad ahead of time?
Yes, you can prepare the salad a few hours ahead of time. However, avocado tends to brown when exposed to air. To prevent this, toss the avocado with a little extra lime juice and store the salad in an airtight container in the refrigerator. It's best to eat it within a few hours of making it. -
Can I use frozen mango?
Fresh mango is preferable for the best flavor and texture. However, if you don't have fresh mango on hand, you can use frozen mango that has been thawed and drained well. -
What are some variations I can try?
You can add other fruits like pineapple or papaya for a tropical twist. For a more substantial salad, add grilled shrimp or black beans. You can also substitute the cilantro with mint for a different flavor profile.
