Sweet Potato & Apple Puree
A naturally sweet and vitamin-packed puree perfect for introducing solids to your baby. Sweet potatoes are rich in Vitamin A and fiber, while apples provide Vitamin C and a gentle sweetness that babies love. This recipe is suitable for babies around 6 months and older, after consulting with your pediatrician.
Ingredients
- 1 medium Sweet Potato
- 1 medium Apple
- As needed Water or Breast Milk/Formula
Preparation
Wash and peel the sweet potato and apple. Cut them into small, even-sized cubes. This ensures even cooking.
Cooking Method 1: Steaming
Place the sweet potato and apple cubes in a steamer basket over boiling water. Steam for 20-25 minutes, or until they are very tender and easily pierced with a fork.
Cooking Method 2: Boiling
Place the sweet potato and apple cubes in a saucepan. Cover with water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until tender.
Pureeing
Once cooked, transfer the sweet potato and apple to a blender or food processor. Add a little water, breast milk, or formula to help achieve a smooth consistency. Puree until completely smooth.
Adjusting Consistency
Add more liquid (water, breast milk, or formula) to reach your desired consistency. For younger babies, a thinner puree is often preferred.
Serving and Storage
Allow the puree to cool slightly before serving. Store any leftover puree in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw frozen puree in the refrigerator overnight before serving.
